I successfully defended myself against trans-bashers on three occasions, while going fulltime.

I have been out in the Houston Transgender community for several years. Each year i read the rememberance sites like this one. I watch in horror the names and faces of the people who were killed.::::We as a society must stop biasedness and hate. It should never be tolerated for whatever reason. ::::None of these people here deserved to die. There is no excuse for murder. Even the religions many of these victims killed in the name of do not condone it.

It is a shame that in the, alleged, most civilized country in the world that such acts of hatred and violence exists. It is also pathetic that in this country protection rights specific to TGs do not exist. Our country has turned a blind eye to transgendered people for too long. ::I hope that each of us remember these faces and their stories day to day so that we carry the message in everything we do. May we resist the urge to hide and be ashamed. Instead, may we stand tall, fight this neglect, and work towards change.

With a lot of positive media exposure in places like The Discovery Health Channel, and with films like Boys Don't Cry and TransAmerica, along with so much good information now widely available on the net, society seems to be making progress with our community.::::Yet such progress is no consolation to those who are murdered, and events like this remind all of us that society has a ways to go. ::::One question each of us may wish to periodically ask is, "What am I doing to help create a society that treats t-people the way I feel it needs to?"

I just watched the story of Gwen Araujo and was so saddened that such a beautiful person could be viciously murdered over her sexual identify. As a christian, I believe God doesn't make mistakes. He loves us all and loved Gwen. That some people would downplay this cold-blooded murder is a crime and tragedy in itself. When I looked online, I found your site and could not believe all the murders of these people that did nothing but be who they were. I am saddened yet now I am also aware.
