In 2014, Houston’s Transgender Women of Color United for Change (T.W.C.U.C) had its first Transgender Day of Resources and Healthy Living event, which had a tremendous and amazing turnout with an extremely diverse group of people in attendance. We had multiple vendors, workshops and hundreds of transgender and gender nonconforming attendees. This event brings education, support and resources to the transgender and gender nonconforming communities. The Transgender Day Of Resources and Healthy Living is an event that has been said to save lives and we are asking for your support and commitment to this worthwhile endeavor. I am Dee Dee Watters, and as both the facilitator and the founder of Houston’s T.W.C.U.C., this year’s FREE event ensures that we provide the necessary resources, and information to the transgender, gender nonconforming and (recently added) the intersex communities of Houston and surrounding areas. Our purpose is to provide a safe place where we can gain access to healthier living, resources, and workshops that are specific to the listed communities. In the previous years, we’ve hosted the TDOR service on the 3rd Wednesday of November followed by the Transgender Day Of Resources & Healthy Living on the 3rd Saturday and that was all. But this year we will now include the I am She and She was Me! Awards Gala which will honor Transgender women and men, Intersex leaders, Gender nonconforming leaders and our allies! Additional information about the Gala can be found on Facebook at I am She and She was Me! Awards Gala (link to the event will be in our comments) and remember to nominate someone or even yourself for an award. This day will be amazing as we provide resources, access to care, access to housing, access to local services like laser hair removal and plastic surgery all followed by entertainment, food and the chance to honor our Trans, Gender Nonconforming and Intersex leaders of Houston while encouraging our marginalized communities and our allies!
Vendors Welcome!
With your help we’re looking to double our number of participants this year. We are asking for vendors to secure booths that offer resources trans-specific and other resources and services that can be accessed. These services and resources include:
Education Health Screening
Vaccinations and Services
Housing Legal and other Services
Organizations Groups
And any services or resources that can benefit the listed communities!
